The Calgary Problem

Your lot gets plowed. Then the chinook arrives.

Chinook winds lift temperatures above freezing mid-winter. Snow melts through the day, then refreezes overnight as thin, clear ice on a surface that was properly cleared yesterday. It is nearly invisible on dark asphalt, and it is waiting at opening time.

That ice forms after the plow has left. A clearing-only contract does not cover it, which is why ice control is part of our service rather than an upsell.

Alberta's Occupiers' Liability Act expects reasonable care so visitors are reasonably safe. Scheduled service with ice control, covering the surfaces people walk on, is what that looks like in practice.

Records that survive to spring

Slip and fall claims arrive months later, when nobody remembers the morning. Time-stamped service records are far stronger evidence than anyone's recollection.

The bylaw, in numbers

Public sidewalks bordering your property must be cleared to bare surface within 24 hours of snowfall ending. Fines escalate at $250, then $500, then $750 within twelve months, plus a minimum $150 plus GST if the City clears it for you. Ice counts against the bare-surface standard.

Is there a fixed contract duration for your services?
Our services are flexible, with a minimum one-month commitment and no penalties for early cancellation.
What is your cancellation policy?
You can cancel without penalty if you give us a 30 days notice. For immediate cancellation, we have a small charge for that.
How does adding ice melt to the service work?
Ice melt is applied as needed during snow clearing visits to effectively melt snow and ice, without additional charges.
Is there a commitment period for your snow removal service?
Our monthly snow removal service requires a minimum commitment of one month. However, we also offer per-time plans and on-demand services for those seeking more flexibility.
How much does residential snow removal cost?
Seasonal plans are $160 per month for a single-car driveway, $245 for a two-car driveway, and $300 for a large or corner lot. Final pricing depends on the area cleared, including whether sidewalks, back lanes and ice melt are part of the plan.
Is there a visit limit or extra charges for frequent snow removal?
Our service includes unlimited visits for a flat monthly rate, with no additional charges for frequent snowfall. However, we have another service plan which the monthly rate based on the number of visits per month or period.
Are there extra charges for heavy snowfalls?
No, our flat monthly rate covers all snowfall intensities, even during heavy snowfalls.
Do you offer discounts for multiple properties?
Yes, we provide a 10% discount for 3-6 properties and a 20% discount for more than 6, applied automatically when booked under the same account.
How is the billing managed for multiple properties?
For multiple properties, each is billed separately, and discounts are applied for bulk registrations under the same account.
What happens in extreme weather conditions?
During extreme weather, our team might take longer to reach you, but rest assured we try our best to minimize the delay as best of our ability.

Yes. Golden Angel carries $2,000,000 in liability insurance and our crews are covered under Alberta WCB. We provide documentation on request before you sign, and we recommend asking any contractor for the same.
